When Koluu was invited to take over the kitchen and the general management, patrons of the new LEMON were assured, not only of all that they love about a favourite restaurant, but also the rare experience of comforts they feel in their own homes.
Delectable delicacies presented to eager guests at LEMON range from Crab Cakes, Coriander and Mushroom Soup, Prawn and Spinach Soup to Portuguese Leg of Lamb with Apricots and many other tried and tested, mouth-watering dishes created as only Koluu knows how. List toppers, Cardamom White Chocolate Mousse and Mocha Meringue and Ginger Pudding, are just a couple of a long line up of Koluu's delightful desserts served at LEMON.
"I feel good" says Koluu, "to be able to give my clients their old favourites in food plus a few all-new creations from time to time. I am not confined to providing culinary education and fine dining only. I am passionate about serving good quality food that everybody enjoys and which certainly isn't priceless! A well-stocked wine bar, cocktails, mock tails, juices galore and a well-trained, obliging staff make the picture of LEMON stand apart". Koluu is not only expert in international cuisine. Madhur Jaffrey, an international cookery critic, had this to say about him: "The versions of Sri Lankan food cooked by Koluu, our caterer/restauranter host, consisted of 25 dishes at least, most ensconced in traditional terracotta pots. There was Yellow Rice, Coconut Rice, String-hoppers, Curries of Jak fruit, Cashew, Onion and Tomato, Beef, Tripe, Mutton Ball, Fish, Prawn, Okra, Winged Bean, Green Bean, Eggplant, Coconut Sambal, Dried Fish Sambal, Pickles and their traditional Mellungs -- vitamin-rich greens, chopped, quickly wilted over a low heat and served... And, what Sri Lankans charmingly call 'Short Eats', consisted of scrumptious Fish Balls and Kalu Pork Curry placed on wedges of Roti..."
LEMON is on the top floor of a modern building in a quieter precinct of Colombo City and is surrounded by cricket grounds, wide open spaces and lots of greenery. The environment and atmosphere are both elegant, yet casual. Sipping a cocktail, chosen from the comprehensive LEMON Bar Menu on the terrace is an unusually relaxing experience. On the restaurant menu there is a wide choice of Continental and Asian fare and the main dining area of LEMON opens at 7 p.m. each day.
Even on the hottest of days, the growing numbers of guests who visit LEMON, find it an exhilarating experience to sit on the terrace and really enjoy a drink and some food. There is a gentle breeze that blows across the area, the frangipani trees add to the ambiance and 32 guests can be accommodated at any one time. The dining area features paintings by young artists that are pleasing to the eye and can hold up to 60 diners.
